MS, RDN, IFNCP
Hello there! I’m Kimberly Ward, the founder of Flourish, Nutrition to Wellness. I’m based in Colorado, though I do spend plenty of time with my family in Arizona as well. I’m a wife, momma of four, and grandma of one. A few of my favorite things are going on walks, reading, and traveling with my husband.
When I tell you that I never imagined myself in this role—helping individuals reclaim their lives through functional nutrition—I truly mean it.
My journey began as a gymnast, an experience filled with great memories and life lessons. One aspect of that experience that impacted my life is that I didn’t get the opportunity to develop an understanding of food and nutrition beyond mere sustenance.
Flash forward to my junior year of college when I decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nutritional science, eventually becoming a registered dietitian. Despite obtaining my master’s degree in the same field, I stepped away from my dietetics career to focus on raising my family. Then, life threw me a curveball—I fell ill.
What is crucial about my story is understanding that while traditional medicine played a role in my recovery, it was functional medicine that truly restored my wellbeing. Through my journey of using food as a catalyst for holistic healing—physically, mentally, and emotionally—my passion for nutrition was reignited. It prompted me to wonder, “Are there others out there facing similar struggles, and can I offer support?”
In those reflective moments, I realized there might be others seeking more, just as I had. Thus, I made the decision to re-enter the realm of nutrition and dietetics, with a fresh perspective. Wellness encompasses more than just dietary choices, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to achieving it. I firmly believe that everyone deserves to flourish, and I am eager to accompany you on this transformative journey.
Why Flourish?
So, why do I share all that information with you? The journey toward health and wellbeing is such a personal one, and I think it’s important that you know a bit of my story, too. Beyond that, it’s important for you to understand the basis for my knowledge and how I will guide you with my education. All registered dietitians are nutritionists, but not all nutritionist are dietitians.
A registered dietitian must complete a minimum of a masters degree in nutritional sciences plus over 1200 hours of accredited supervised dietetic internship. Additionally, we must pass a board-certified national exam. My additional training as an integrative & functional nutrition practitioner (IFNCP) required over 220 hours of coursework and successful completion of a board certified exam.
The time and energy I have spent working toward my bachelor’s, master’s, and IFNCP is the foundation on which we are able to build a plan that actually works. It’s the reason this isn’t a cookie-cutter approach to health. It’s how we help you Flourish.
